Sen. Inhofe speaks truth to global warming wackos...

... by calling BS on the media's spinning of warming and cooling trends. It's a long read, but well worth it.

And now... an intermission

An offering of Internet Culture and "memes":

Main Stream Media/ P.C. speak

*Cue Peter Griffin voice*
"You know what really grinds my gears?"

Buzzwords and catch phrases that I hear ad nauseam in the media. Words that are used to inflate the user and soften impact. Spineless, mealy mouthed, corporate feel good fluff. Allow me to illustrate and offer a fix:
  • Empower - Authorize or warrant
  • Embolden - foster boldness or courage
  • Enable - qualify, allow, permit
  • Purport - Imply or intention of
  • Vitriol - Abusive or caustic
  • "Take ownership of..." - "I" as in "I did/said"
  • Dialog - when used as a verb. What's wrong with "talk"?
  • "Speak truth to power" - What the hell does that mean? It's pretentious. About as annoying as "Stand up and be counted."
  • "Move on"/ "Get over it" - Just say "Both you and your premise bore me."

When you find one, you'll probably find the others. It's precisely this that makes me roll my eyes at the speaker. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. Brevity is key.

Chavez upstages Dems by stealing their thunder

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/09/21/
I think Chavez is on the Dem's talking points mailing list. After his Bush name calling rants at the U.N. and Harlem, Pelosi and Rangel were in CYA mode, calling Chavez a "thug" and rebuking his attack. Pretty transparent as they probably agree with the Noam Chomsky pimpin' Chavez, but have to show... you know... unity with Americans.

Apparently, the left has dibs on name calling. They don't like it when their A list material gets pimped by anyone other than them. With classy retorts like "devil", "alcoholic"," smells of sulfur" and "sick man", I can see why the Dems felt upstaged. "Hey, those are OUR lines!"

Rangel's press release was chock full of "equal time". Here's the meat of it:

I feel that I must speak out now since the Venezuelan government has been instrumental in providing oil at discounted prices to people in low income communities who have suffered increases in rent as heating oil prices have risen sharply. By offering this benefit to people in need, Venezuela has won many friends in poor communities of New York and other states. I am surprised that American oil companies have not stepped up to provide that kind of assistance to the poor.
Venezuela's generosity to the poor, however, should not be interpreted as license to attack President Bush. Those who take issue with Bush Administration policies have no right to attack him personally. It was not helpful when President Bush referred to certain nations as an "axis of evil." Neither is it helpful for a head of state to use the sacred halls of the United Nations to insult President Bush.

Way to stand your ground there, Charlie.

Calif. sues carmakers over greenhouse gas

SACRAMENTO, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- California is suing the six largest U.S. and Japanese automakers in federal court for damages in connection with greenhouse gas emissions.
The legal action, filed Wednesday in Oakland, Calif., by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, alleges the vehicles' emissions have harmed the resources, infrastructure and environmental health of California, costing the state millions of dollars to address current and future effects.

Thanks Bill. Just what we need... more nanny state lawsuits.

Trouble afoot in Thailand

Military coup in Thailand while thier P.M. is in New York:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,25689-2365499,00.html

Looking at the pictures... I couldn't help but notice all the 1980's era U.S. surplus equiptment. Among the items I see:
M60 tank
M113 with M2 .50 Cal. MG.
M998 HMMVW
M16A2 rifles with 20 round mags
Web gear (LCE) with U.S. marked magazine pouches
"Fritz" Kevlar helmet. (PASGT)

No big deal, but I'm wondering if the american left will blame us for this coup by selling off old surplus.

Culture of Death strikes Canada

Looks like the goth/emo/death crowd may have a new poster boy: Kimveer Gill (AKA: fatality666). Here's a screengrab from his vampirefreaks profile:

Synopsis via Wikipedia: On September 13. 2006 Gill arrived at Dawson College in Montreal and opened fire on students within the main building, killing Anastasia De Sousa, 18, and wounding nineteen other people before officer Denis Cote and other policemen "incapacitated" him. He then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide, according to witnesses, authorities and the autopsy report.

No surprise that the blame is falling on the gun culture rather than the individual. This article fingers the gun club where Gill negotiated the legal hoops of gun ownership in Canada.

Fear not, timid people of California! CA DOJ has seen to it that the Beretta carbine used in NOT for sale here. Ironically, only 10 round magazines are allowed for sale in Canada, as in California. Those arbitrary limits on magazine capacity really had an effect here. I know I'll sleep better at night.... (audible eyeroll). Actually, I do. With my Glock 21 and preban 13 round mag stoked with CorBon JHP rounds. Just in case a vampire attacks.

September 11th

I remember this morning in mental snapshots. It was beyond surreal. It still is.

My resolve to fight this enemy has not waivered. Sadly, I sense that it is going to take a few more attacks on our soil to really wake up the non-believers. The ones who think we did this, are to blame for this...ect. Just wait for that 15 KT fireball to incinerate your family and favorite coffee shop and then maybe you'll realize what we are facing.

And yes... the graphic idea and creation is mine.
